Hard To Get

"Not much. Just finished up some work. How about you? What are you doing?" Randy asked, biting his lip a bit.

"Out to beers with a few of the guys from the force," Carter replied. "It's a Tuesday night tradition."

"Oh," Randy said, looking around his bedroom. "I was, uh, wondering if you wanted to come over soon," he asked, biting his bottom lip.

"You want me to come over?" Carter smiled.

"Yeah, when you aren't too busy," Randy said nonchalant, though inside he was tingling.

"I'm just out with some of the boys, I'll be there soon," Carter smiled.

"Okay," Randy said, biting his lip as smile graced his lips.

Carter hung up and practically bolted from the bar, speeding off to Randy's.

Randy set his phone on the nightstand and relaxed against his bed, trying to calm his nerves. There was no reason a man should make him this way.

When he reached Randy's house, Carter made sure that he looked respectable before walking to the door and knocking.

John opened the door, crossing his arms as he stood in front of it. "What can I do for you, Mr. Lacroix?" he asked.

Carter smiled, thought John definitly intimidated him. He knew that the man was probably the best assassin in the world and definitly the best assassin in New York. "Randy...he called me to come over..."

John eyed him skeptically, not entirely sure that he should believe him. "Right. Right this way," he said, moving aside so Carter could enter.

Carter smiled, nodding as he walked past John. He looked around the living room, taking in little details before asking. "So...um...where's he at?"

"His room, I would guess," John said as he closed the door. "I'm sure you know where it is. Don't do anything stupid. I know it's hard." He walked away.

Carter rolled his eyes, making a note that John didn't trust him. After all, why should he? He was a cop walking into a home full of mafia men. He made his way back to Randy's room before knocking. "Hello, it's me Randy."

Randy looked up and smiled at Carter. "Hey," he said lightly.

Carter smiled back, "Hey, I didn't think that John was going to let me in the house for a moment."

Randy chuckled. "Yeah, John's a skeptic. He has to be, being practically my bodyguard," he said and patted the spot on the bed next to him. "Come sit. Relax."

Carter kicked off his boots and sat on the bed next to him. "How was your day?"

"Long. Draining. Tedious. Yours?" Randy asked, laying on his side and looking at him.

"Boring...works always boring..." frowned Carter with a long yawn.

Randy chuckled. "Being a cop is boring? That's the first time I heard that one," he said.

"Well it can be. When they make you do desk work you don't get to be out in the field like you want to be. Today was a desk work day for me," Carter nodded, "It's not like being a mob boss when you can just go out and do whatever you want. There are rules, laws, that have to be followed."

Randy chuckled. "We follow rules here, too, Carter. We're just... More flexible with the rules. And this isn't all flashy and fun as they portray on the television and movies. We have an awful lot of paper work, too. More so than you guys do," he said, resting his hand on Carter's thigh.
