Heart Shaped Box

Alex sighed. "Alright." He mumbled and picked something that looked good. He but the menu down. He had no appetite like he had no libido. "Why do you care so much?"

Beck shrugged. "What can I say? I'm a crazy guy who likes to help the unhelpable," he chuckled as the waitress came back with their drinks. They ordered their food and handed her the menus before she left.

Alex shrugged. "Well I am pretty unhelpable." He sighed. "I'll need a fix after this..." He mumbled to himself.

Beck shook his head. "I can help you get better, Alex," he said softly, looking at the young addict.

Alex looked away. "I-I don't need help." He mumbled quietly, his blond hair falling in his face as he looked at the table. "I don't want help. I wanna die..." He whispered, almost inaudibly.

Beck took one of Alex's hand in both of his. "No one should want to die. Let me give you a reason to live," he whispered softly.

Alex looked down, his hand shaking in Beck's. "I..." He didn't know what to say. "You don't even know me, okay? You don't have to care..." He mumbled quietly.

"Yeah, well I do. So suck it up and deal with it," Beck said firmly, squeezing his hand reassuringly.

Alex sighed shakily. "Fine..." He murmured. "I just.. really need a fix." He said, fidgeting slightly in his seat.

"NO," BECK SAID. "YOU DON'T. AND I'LL MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET ANY," HE ADDED AS THEIR FOOD CAME OUT.

Alex frowned. "Are you gonna make me quit cold turkey?" He asked incredulously. No way could he do that. he'd been on drugs for years. He needed them.. bad.

"Yes," Beck replied. "Trust me. I'll make it easier on you than you feel it's gonna go," he said as he began to eat.

Alex sighed and tucked his hair behind his hear. He looked down at his food. "I'm to hungry." He mumbled before looking down at his lap, his leg bouncing up and down.

"Well, eat anyway," Beck said. He ate slowly, having to force the food to go down and stay down, seeing as his stomach wasn't used to the heaviness and density of food.

Alex soghed and started to eat, not even tasting it and struggling to keep it down. He got about halfway through the meal before he couldn't eat anymore. "I'm done." He murmured, staring down at the table.

Beck had only eaten a few bites before his body wouldn't let him anymore. So when he saw that Alex had eaten half his meal, he was more than okay with that. "Alright," he said and motioned for the check.

Alex sighed and sank dowm in his seat. He looked at Beck. "So, what do you do when your not... fucking for money?" He asked.

"I do a lot of things. Draw, sing, drink. Exercise. How about you?" Beck asked as he waited for their check.

Alex shrugged. "Nothing much really. I mean... I like music. I played guitar and I write a few somgs but... I uh, sold my guitar." He sighed. That guitat was his only prized posession, and regretted selling it.

"Why?" Beck asked as the waitress set the bill down. He picked it up and looked at the total, pulling out his wallet and putting the money on top of the bill. The waitress came back by and took the money. Beck smiled at Alex and stood. "Let's go" he said.

Alex nodded amd got up, walking beside Beck. "I sold it because I needed money and... I needed a fix." He sighed.

Beck nodded in understanding. "I probably should've guess that one, huh?" he chuckled as they began the walk back to the motel. "Ya know, if you want, you can stay with me."

Alex bit his lip and looked down at the ground. He wasn't too turned off about the idea. Maybe he wouldn't feel so alone. "Where do you live?" He murmured.

"Manhattan," Beck replied, shoving his hands in his pockets.

Alex sighed. "You know... if your not gonna let me do drugs, I can't really sell them and pay you rent." He said, tucking a grand of hair behind his ear.
