Heart Shaped Box

"I'm not asking you to pay rent," Beck said as they walked.

Alex sighed. "Alright..." He said quietly and walked with Beck back to his place. "Thank you." He whispered, his arms tight around himself and his eyes on the ground, his hair in hi face.

"You're welcome," Beck said as they walked the long trek to the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Many people thought Beck was poor because he was a prostitute, but he only prostituted for fun. He was pretty well off.

alex glanced around at they all condo buildings. "Upper East Side?" He asked. "Must make good money..." He said, a little uncomfortable in the... nicer part of NYC. He wasn't used to it.

Beck chuckled. "Being around as long as me, you pick up some money," he smiled as they arrived at a hotel. He lived in the penthouse on the top floor. "Here we are," he said as they walked in and across the lobby.

Alex looked around as he walked next to Beck. "Damn." He mumbled as they went into the elevator. He looked at Beck. "How old are you anyway?" He asked.

"Older than you think," he replied as he got in the elevator and pulled out a key, putting it in the slot and turning it before pressing the 'P' button and they started to ascend.

Alex nodded and shrugged it off. He followed Beck into the huge the condo. He looked around. "Geeze, you must be loaded..." He said, sniffing a bit and clenching his shaking fist.

Beck shrugged as he looked around the penthouse. "It's not that impressive," he said, not thinking much of. He'd had better.

"Well to a broke ass junkie, it's pretty impressive." Alex said with a shrug. He glanced at the collection of guitars on the wall. "You play?" He asked.

"Sometimes. Most of the time, they're just there for display. I'm more of a singer myself," Beck replied as he walked into the living room.

Alex nodded. "I like to do both." He said, slowly sitting on the couch in the living room. "Well... I did do both. Not so much anymore." He sighed.

"You should get back into it. It might help the motivation to stop drugs," Beck said as he sat on the couch.

Alex shrugged. "I don't have a guitar. And I haven't written in a while." He murmured, playing with the hem of his sweater absentmindedly.

Beck pointed to table. "Pen and paper." Then he pointed to wall. "Guitar. Have at it," he said.

Alex bit his lip. "I don't have a good voice." He mumbled another excuse. He actually had a good voice. It was very grunge-y sounding and gruff, but nonetheless he was good, though he didn't think so.

"So?" Beck asked. "I'm not asking you to sing for 50,000 people. Just me," he said, crossing his arms.

Alex looked t him. "You want me to play for you now?" He grumbled, tucking his hair behind his ear as a habit.

Beck nodded. "Yup," he said, smiling. "It doesn't have to be original. A cover is fine," he said.

Alex sighed deeply and got up and went to the wall. He lifted an acoustic guitar off it's rack and sat down with it on the couch. He tuned it before he started to strum it, a song he wrote a while ago. Playing the guitar was about the only time his hands stopped shaking completely.

Forever in debt to your priceless advice..." He sang. His lyrics were pretty... unorthodox but they were him. This was on of few songs he wrote when he wasn't high.

Beck leaned back, listening to Alex sing. He had an amazing voice, and the lyrics were deep. The corner's of his lips quirked up a bit in a gentle smile, one you almost couldn't see.

Alex finished the song and leaned back into the couch, his hand running absentmindedly over the curve of the guitar. "I write that a while ago..." He murmured.

"That was amazing." Beck said, looking at Alex with a soft smile, more visible than his last smile.

Alex shrugged. "If you say so." He said quietly and lightly strummed the strings of a new song that started to form in his head.

Beck chuckled lightly, but he just sat back and listened, not wanting to break his concentration.
